Since 1997, the WLA’s scholarly journal Western American Literature has been offering graduate students editorial fellowships.
Currently, these fellowships are at the Northern Michigan University in Marquette, where our editor, Amy Hamilton, resides.
The WAL Editorial Fellow position offers MA and MFA students enrolled at Northern Michigan University the opportunity to learn about academic publishing. The position includes a stipend funded by Northern Michigan University. Editorial Fellows maintain WAL databases, assist with copy editing and source checking, develop WAL social media, and work with the Book Review Editor to deliver volumes to reviewers.
The current fellow (2024-2025) is Jennifer McMahon.
